:: Film :: THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (1957)
"After settling his differences with a Japanese PoW camp commander, a British colonel co-operates to oversee his men's construction of a railway bridge for their captors - while oblivious to a plan by the Allies to destroy it."
IMDB (8,4/10)A magnificent, moving film!
The only thing that I have to warn you about is the length of the movie, cuz it`s long (161min). It`s like all the old movies - slow , so take your time and enjoy it.

MARNI at H&M
"Marni x H&M – latest designer collaboration is with Italian label Marni, and for the spring 2012 campaign–Markus Jans is enlisted for a series of romantic images. Starring Liu Wen and Imogen Poots the images showcase the line’s stunning patterns in a sun-drenched setting." via
Previous time it was about Versace for H&M which I didn`t like so much (except two dresses that I would love to have in my closet), because it`s not really my style and today I`m writting about Marni and that`s a whole other story. :)
I love the colors, more natural/earthy and the prints as well, I`m just not a big fan of all the shiny things (with some exceptions).Anyway the collection will be probably only in Ljubljana and I`m not going to stand there in the queue , which means no Marni for me, but that`s ok, I won`t be sad. (Ohh gosh, that must be a surprise). :) I`m following fashion but I`m not really too much into it...I just wear what I like at the moment, even if it`s an old trend. Depends on the mood I guess...
On photo above are my two favorite pieces, the t-shirt on the left and the dress on the right, which I`m not sure that would look good on me. (you know, when you see clothes on models, everything looks great, but than you go and you try it on and that can be quite dissapointing.) We have all been there, right?
Oh, btw 8th of March is the magical date!
What`s your opinion about the Marni for the H&M campaign?
I dont like the add that much, its a bit boring. Romantic, but still boring! :)

"The Amazona of Miss Earth 2011"
1. Who is Susana by describing herself in 3 words?
simple, outgoing and human
2. When you won the title as "Miss Earth Portugal", how did it changed your life?
The title said a lot, especially through this dedication and preparation for the contest.
3. What environmental advocacy are you into?
My environmental protection is based on environmental education for the forest. My projectwould be an eco-school, where he would learn concepts very important to society, whichtoday are forgotten.
4. In a span of a week, how did you bond with the ladies?
Very well. We were very united and us We helped each other.
5. Being part of the top 16, how does it feel?
I am very happy because I did not expect! For me it was a victory
6. Did you expected to be also in the top 8?
Honoring more and better my country, is part of my plans. A top 8 was very welcome. But I feel honored to have been in the top 16.
7. Now Miss Earth Pageant is done, what projects will Susana gonna be busy of?
Now I can continue what had begun .. Continue to university and finish my degree in Social Work.
8. Who among the ladies you'll gonna be missing the most?
I missed most of the Miss Brazil and Miss Venezuela :(
9. How will you celebrate victory in Portugal?
Unfortunately in Portugal, these contests are not highly publicized, because Portugal, returning to about the competition three years, is never ranked well, so is my celebration with people nearby.
10. If I were to ask you the question in Q & A, why is education important to saving the environment as what you formulated in your group manifesto?
You can not build a house, starting with the roof. We have to get underneath to get a goodplanning on it. Therefore, education as children is the most important step in life, whether environmental or in society.
11. What type of girl do you want to pass your crown as "Miss Earth Portugal"?
I want above all a simple person that has goals, and that can remain in the top 16 or is top.
Beauty Tip to All.
Like yourselves .. is the secret of beauty:)
Message to all your fans?
I want to thank everyone for supporting the Portuguese, and all people who welcomed us to Manila and Tarlac. Especially my family and friends, have always believed and supported to the fullest. It wasthanks to them that I am the person I am today.
" We wish you luck for your future endeavors Susana"
Greetings from UBC

Miss South Africa launches social campaign with Miss Universe Leila Lopes
Miss South Africa launches social campaign with Miss Universe Leila Lopes
Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes has recently landed in South Africa, where she was welcomed by Miss South Africa 2012 Melinda Bam, who was to launch a very important social campaign.
Miss South Africa 2011, Melinda Bam launched a campaign in aid of the Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre. February marked the launch of the “SAVE OUR HOME” campaign led by Miss South Africa 2011, Melinda Bam.
The campaign is in aid of the Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre, a place of safety for fourteen children who have been removed from parental custody for various reasons such as abuse, negligence, rape, abandonment. The children are sent to Thuthuzela by the SAPS, social workers and Child Welfare. “HIV/AIDS infected children receive treatment during their stay here says 22 year old Bam. She continues; the children attend school while the younger one attend day care. The thought of these children being evicted breaks my heart and sadly it is a reality that they face.”
Bam has been involved in the project since 2011 as a Miss South Africa finalist, it is then that she learnt of the owners’ intent to sell the property where Thuthuzela is located. After her crowning in December 2011, she was certain that 2012, her year of reign will be dedicated to helping save Thuthuzela. Elizabeth (Lizzy) Monyela, child minder and the founder of Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre established the centre in 2005 after seeing the pain of children neglected in her community. It was also motivated by the heartache of losing her son, Julius who suffered from Down’s syndrome. “The building we occupy was initially meant to be a temporary shelter. Six years later we are still here sharing the place with other tenants. Nineteen orphans are now sleeping in the same room, sharing only one bathroom.
We are in urgent need of a new home with enough rooms space for the kids to play in. Our day care centre, run in the same premises, is also affected by this lack of space. There are 41 children who share the same garage area. We would love to have proper classrooms, toilet facilities and play areas. The building is currently for sale and our greatest fear is that should the house be purchased by someone we would be evicted. We cannot afford to buy it ourselves nor would it be possible for us to cover the heavy renovation costs required,” says Lizzy as she is affectionately known in the community.
The Business for Empowerment Trust “BET” has come on board donating R100 000 to the “SAVE OUR HOME” initiative and will be handing over a cheque to Melinda and Lizzy on the 23rd February 2012 at Shere Empowerment Conference Centre in Pretoria East. “When I heard about this donation I was out of words. It gave me a sense of hope and purpose and I am grateful to the organisation. This is just the beginning and we are nowhere near our target. I call upon more organisations to assist, this cannot be done without you,” said Melinda Bam.
BET was established in 2008 primarily to provide an independent and expertly administered, managed and monitored vehicle for organisations to channel their Socio-Economic Development “SED” or CSI contributions to beneficiaries that qualify in terms of BEE requirements. Soon after it was established the BET evolved towards also facilitating the integration of Socio-Economic Development with Black Enterprise Development. Towards the end of 2009 a programme was started whereby tertiary-qualified unemployed black youths were empowered to supply the Hunger & Thirst Foundation with feeding packs needed for the children in its programme. This meant that the same money that funded social development was leveraged to also fund black entrepreneurship development. The amount donated will be put in a secure trust fund until enough funds are raised to acquire a new property for mam’ Lizzy and her children. Further expansion plans will also be put in place to benefit the community which played home to Thuthuzela for the past 6 years.
There are strong rumors that Miss Universe 2012 will happen in Sun City, South Africa, in December.

:: HANDLE ME ::
"Simen Aarseth, Christoffer Angell and Øyvind Wyller are three product designers who have collaborated on several projects after they completed their master`s degree in design at the Oslo National Academy of Arts in Norway summer 2010.
One their project is Handle Me, a sleek cast iron cookware set with wooden handles. A celebration of simplicity, Handle Me is a modern twist on the traditional casserole. Besides it`s a superb design, it is also very durable."
Which is always good right? :) I really like their projects, check it out, their are doing some great things!
I definitely wouldn`t mind having these beauties in my kitchen...
