Pageant Vixen Talk # 22: Chelsae Durocher

Pageant Vixen Talk # 22: Xhesika Berberi
by: Jay`Em

22! Hello people! Our next girl for the PVT is a girl of positiveness! She never think about negative things and this unique attitude of her made her succeed in her chosen field. She is Miss Global Teen 2010 2nd RY and Miss Universe Canada 2011-Chelsae Durocher!

1. Who is Chelsae Durocher by representing yourself with a thing?
Chelsae Durocher is like a ball of play dough or playing clay. I can adapt and change depending on a situation, yet can be tough and durable when needed as well. Also I love kids and play dough is a great childhood craft!

2. What got you into pageants?
As a child I was very involved in singing and performing in local community theatre productions. In high school I began to do some local modeling and realized that pageantry seemed to combine these two passions of mine into one grand event. I wanted to be an ambassador for my community and entered in the 2008 Miss Tecumseh competition as I saw it as an excellent opportunity to be involved within the community and to be a role model for others. I did not win that competition and then stumbled upon an application for the Miss Teen Canada World competition and after working with the director Michelle Weswaldi I won this title. I love the experience of competing in pageantry and that is what drew me to continue for the past 3 years.

3. Upon winning Ms. Universe Canada, how did you prepare yourself?
I had excellent training entering the Canadian competition thanks to the MTC-W director Michelle Weswaldi, so I had a great base to go off of. Upon winning I trained in Calgary with Fabricio Loza and in Venezuela with Katty Pulido where they covered everything from posing for pictures, to how to use a sarong, it was a great learning experience.

4. As you arrived in Brazil, what was on your mind?
I was excited to arrive and was eager to meet my roommate Miss USA Alyssa Campanella. I looked forward to what was to come during my stay in Sao Paulo, and could not wait to begin the registration process where I would meet many of the contestants.

5. How did you handled the pressure when your in Brazil from the day you arrived until the pageant night?
When I’m in a competition I don’t find myself feeling pressured or anxious. I love what I do and that is why I continue to do it, so for me it is easy. I am confident in myself and I know I worked hard to get there and at that point stressing out does not help you but will only hinder you. I just kept up a positive mentality knowing I was going to put out my best effort, and truly that is all you can ask from yourself.

6. What was the difference in Miss Global Teen and Miss Universe?
First off the location was a big difference, from being in Campo Grande last year to Sao Paulo this year I was able to see a vast difference Brazil has to offer, it has amazing nature and scenery but as well an unbelievable city with amazing architecture and history. Secondly a difference I was pleasantly surprised about was the amount of contestants in MU who are fluent in English as opposed to MGT. I loved the fact that I could communicate with practically any contestant this year although last year we found different ways to bond such as music and dancing. Both were incredible experiences but they were different from one another.

7. What characteristic that you could say that made you unique from the 88 others?
What makes me unique is my continuous positivity. Even when I became ill during the competition with a cold and fever I remained positive and continued on. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the MU competition and I was determined to make the most out of it and have no regrets which I don’t, I enjoyed every moment of it.

8. After Miss Universe what would be your plans?
I am going to continue to work with children and hopefully find new and inventive ways to collaborate within various schools and charities.

9. Will we still see you in other beauty pageants?
I actually just returned from the Miss Continente Americano competition in Ecuador. It was so wonderful to be reunited with some of the MU girls; and I look forward to returning to Ecuador in the near future to see and explore more of it.

10. Message to your fans
To my fans, thank you so much for your continuous love and support. I am very approachable so please feel free to contact me and say hi whether it is via twitter for facebook. I am also always looking to get involved in new projects so if you have any suggestions for me, please do not be shy to share them! I’m still a small town girl just with a big time opportunity hoping to make a difference, and you too can help! There is always ways to help out others even if it is something small.
Most importantly though believe in yourself because if you do that, you can accomplish anything. Dream BIG!!
xo

" We wish you luck for your future endeavors Chelsae!"
Greetings from UBC
